CVE-2022-38100Network attack vector

Device crash via malformed UDP request

Published Sep 13, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025

Uncontrolled resource consumption in Contec CMS8000 Patient Monitor firmware allows remote attackers to crash it via malformed UDP data. Its network-data parser fails while processing a specially formatted UDP request, terminating the entire monitor rather than rejecting the malformed input. Unauthenticated network access is sufficient, and a broadcast request can crash every reachable unit on the same network until each receives a physical reboot.
