Process crash via unchecked RTP atom allocation
Published Nov 1, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Denial of service in Axiomatic Systems LLC Bento4 allows remote attackers to crash mp42aac by supplying a crafted MP4 file. AP4_RtpAtom in Source/C++/Core/Ap4RtpAtom.cpp trusts an atom-derived allocation size, fails to handle allocation failure, and copies input into a null buffer. A user must process the file with mp42aac; exploitation exhausts memory or dereferences the failed allocation, terminating that process without reported data disclosure or modification.
