Privileged access via globally shared default credentials
Published Sep 13, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025
Hard-coded credentials in Contec CMS8000 patient monitors allow physically proximate attackers to gain privileged device access. The device firmware embeds multiple globally shared default credentials, so credentials exposed from one unit authenticate with privileged access on other units. Momentary physical access is required to expose the credentials; privileged access permits patient-data extraction and device-parameter changes.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
