CVE-2022-38065Public exploit

Root privilege escalation via overly broad privileged wrappers

Published Dec 21, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Privilege escalation in OpenStack git master 05194e7618 and earlier allows local users in a service container to gain root access. The nova privsep path module exposes root-level arbitrary file operations and ownership or mode changes, while os_brick exposes arbitrary shell-command execution as root. Control of an unprivileged OpenStack service process inside the container is required; successful exploitation permits root file access or command execution.
