Root command execution via preserved sudo environment
Published Dec 21, 2022 · Updated May 7, 2025
Privilege escalation in OpenStack Kolla git master 05194e7618 allows local users in a Kolla container to execute commands as root. The container sudoers policy preserves attacker-controlled environment variables without secure_path; kolla_copy_cacerts resolves a program through PATH, while kolla_set_configs accepts attacker-supplied configuration. Membership in the container kolla group is required, and compromise of a privileged container can grant root access on its host.
