CVE-2022-38028Known exploitation

SYSTEM code execution via constraints-file path redirection

Published Oct 11, 2022 · Updated Jan 12, 2026

Elevation of privilege in Microsoft Windows Print Spooler allows local users to execute code with SYSTEM permissions through a crafted constraints file. The service follows an attacker-controlled C: object-manager link to a modified MPDW-Constraints.js file, whose protocol-handler call loads an attacker DLL as SYSTEM. A low-privilege foothold and a running Print Spooler are required; successful exploitation grants complete control of the local host.
