CVE-2022-37998Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Sandbox session denial via unreleased critical section

Published Oct 11, 2022 · Updated Jan 2, 2025

Denial of service in Microsoft Windows LSM allows guest OS users to block new sandbox sessions through the container RPC interface. ContainerSessionServer::AskForSession returns after the per-container counter reaches two without releasing its critical section, leaving later calls blocked indefinitely. Exploitation requires access from a Hyper-V container and manipulated session counters; the resulting deadlock prevents new sandbox instances rather than crashing the host.
