Router takeover via unbounded list parsing
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in Tenda AX1803 1.0.0.1 allows attackers to crash the router or execute code through a crafted list parameter. The formSetVirtualSer handler passes the value to sub_89D3C, where unbounded sscanf conversions write comma-delimited fields into fixed-size stack buffers. A crafted POST to the management endpoint can overwrite control data, producing a service crash or a root shell when program control is hijacked.
