Remote code execution via unchecked PPPoE password
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
A stack-based buffer overflow in Tenda AC1206 firmware 15.03.06.23 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted PPPoE password. The formQuickIndex handler passes PPPOEPassword to decodepwd, which copies and slash-filters it into the fixed-size decode_pwd stack array without checking its length. The unauthenticated management request can crash the service or overwrite control data to obtain a root shell.
