Unauthenticated code execution via PPPoE password overflow
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in Tenda AC1206 firmware 15.03.06.23 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted WizardHandle request. The fromWizardHandle path passes the PPW value to decodepwd, which filters slash characters while copying it into a fixed-size decode_pwd stack buffer without a length bound. No authentication or user interaction is required; a long PPPoE password can crash the router or provide a root shell.
