Remote code execution via unbounded time parsing
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in saveParentControlInfo in Tenda AC1206 15.03.06.23 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted time value. The handler parses the time parameter with sscanf using unbounded %[^-] and %s conversions into fixed-size starttime and endtime stack buffers, allowing oversized fields to overwrite control data. The HTTP request requires no privileges or user interaction; the published proof demonstrates a service crash and program-counter control and reports a stable root shell as achievable.
