Administrator-to-SYSTEM escalation via writable service ImagePath
Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Local privilege escalation in IObit Malware Fighter 9.2 for Windows allows local users with Administrator rights to execute a crafted binary as SYSTEM. Missing tamper protection permits the IMFservice and AdvancedSystemCareService15 ImagePath registry values to be replaced with a crafted executable that the services launch after restart. Administrator access is required; successful exploitation disables malware protection and grants SYSTEM-level code execution.
