Browser script execution via unescaped search quotes
Published Oct 31, 2022 · Updated Feb 16, 2026
Reflected XSS in phpMyFAQ before 3.1.8 allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser through a crafted search request. phpmyfaq/index.php passes the search term to Strings::htmlspecialchars without ENT_QUOTES, leaving quotes usable to escape the search field's HTML attribute. Exploitation requires a user to open the crafted request; injected script runs in the phpMyFAQ origin with that user's browser privileges.
