Prototype pollution via unchecked option-name assignment
Published Oct 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Prototype pollution in beautify-web js-beautify 1.13.7 allows attackers to alter object prototypes through crafted option names. The options.js normalization and merge loops enumerate option properties and assign them to ordinary objects without filtering inherited or prototype-sensitive names. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled options to the library; resulting effects depend on how polluted properties are later consumed.
