Browser script execution via unprotected admin endpoints
Published Aug 5, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Reflected XSS in the dotCMS Core admin portal through 22.06 allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser via a crafted request. The public record states that admin-portal responses reflect attacker-controlled input when XSS protection is disabled, but it does not identify the handlers or parameters. Exploitation requires user interaction and XSS_PROTECTION_ENABLED=false; dotCMS disputes reachability because it says protection is effectively enabled in every configuration.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
