Decoder interruption via overlapping memory copy
Published Aug 5, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Memory-copy overlap in Ittiam libmpeg2 before 2022-07-27 allows context-dependent attackers to interrupt decoding via crafted MPEG-2 input. In impeg2_mc_fullx_fully_8x8, libmpeg2 passes overlapping source and destination memory blocks to memcpy, whose operation is undefined for overlap. Reaching the flaw requires user interaction with attacker-controlled content; public sources limit the reported effect to availability but do not state whether interruption manifests as a crash or hang.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
