CVE-2022-37401

Stored password recovery via low-entropy master keys

Published Aug 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Insufficient entropy in Apache OpenOffice 4.1.12 and earlier allows attackers to recover stored web passwords via brute force. The master-key encoder reduces effective entropy from 128 bits to 43 bits when protecting passwords in the user's configuration database. Exploitation requires access to that user's stored configuration and exposes web-connection passwords protected by the weakened key.
