Prototype pollution via alias variable
Published Sep 20, 2022 · Updated May 28, 2025
Prototype pollution in stealjs steal 2.2.4 allows remote attackers to alter object prototypes via crafted alias input. The babel.js alias variable is incorporated without blocking prototype-reserved properties, allowing attacker-controlled keys to modify shared JavaScript object prototypes. Exploitation requires the vulnerable package to process attacker-influenced alias data; resulting prototype changes can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the consuming application.
