Service interruption via inefficient main.js regex
Published Sep 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Regular expression denial of service in Steal 2.2.4 allows remote attackers to interrupt applications that parse crafted JavaScript. The affected main.js logic applies inefficient regular expressions to the source and sourceWithComments values, allowing crafted text to consume excessive CPU through backtracking. No authentication or user interaction is required, and the documented consequence is application unavailability rather than data disclosure or modification.
