Stored browser-script execution via unescaped group names
Published Sep 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Craft CMS 4.2.0.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in another user's browser through a field group name. The field settings template inserts a translated field-group name into generated markup without HTML escaping, causing a saved payload to render when the group is selected or displayed. Authenticated access to /admin/settings/fields is required, and exploitation affects control-panel users who later view the malicious field.
