Stored XSS via unescaped category label
Published Sep 21, 2022 · Updated May 27, 2025
Stored XSS in Craft CMS 4.2.0.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript when another user selects a crafted category. BaseElementSelectInput.createNewElement inserts elementInfo.label into translated removal text without HTML escaping; the patch wraps the label in Craft.escapeHtml. An account able to create categories can plant the label, but execution requires a second control-panel user to add the tampered parent category.
