Account takeover via unlimited TOTP attempts
Published Sep 8, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Improper restriction of authentication attempts in PlexTrac before API 1.17.0 allows remote authenticated users to bypass TOTP MFA. The MFA verification flow accepts unlimited six-digit TOTP submissions during each two-minute token window and handled about 10,000 attempts per minute in testing. A valid username and password for an MFA-enabled account are required; a successful guess grants access as the targeted user.
