Root code execution via unbounded sscanf conversion
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in H3C H200 firmware H200V100R004 allows remote attackers to execute code as root via a crafted HTTP POST request. Edit_BasicSSID parses the attacker-controlled param value with sscanf using an unbounded %[^;] conversion, which writes beyond the destination stack buffer. Network access to the web management interface is required; successful exploitation can restart the affected process or yield a root shell.
