CVE-2022-3707

System crash via GVT-g shadow-page double free

Published Mar 6, 2023 · Updated Mar 7, 2025

Double free in the Intel GVT-g graphics driver in Linux kernel 6.1-rc3 allows local users to crash the host system. When intel_gvt_dma_map_guest_page fails while split_2MB_gtt_entry populates a shadow page table, ppgtt_invalidate_spt frees the table, but ppgtt_populate_spt_by_guest_entry later frees it again on its error path. A local low-privileged user must reach the GVT-g 2 MB guest page-table split path on a host using Intel GPU virtualization; the bounded consequence is a host crash.
