CVE-2022-3704Public exploit

Self-XSS via route-search innerHTML assignment

Published Oct 26, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Self-XSS in Action Pack's route error page in Ruby on Rails 7.0.4 and earlier allows local users to execute pasted JavaScript. The route-search script inserted its path value into table markup with innerHTML instead of assigning it as text. The Rails security team disputes a valid attack vector because execution requires a developer to paste the payload into a development-only page exposed on localhost.
