CVE-2022-37030Public exploit

Privilege escalation via group-writable PAM plugin configuration

Published Aug 4, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Privilege escalation in Grommunio Gromox 0.5 through 1.27 allows local users in the gromox group to execute code through PAM. The PAM module reads /etc/gromox/pam.cfg from a group-writable directory and loads shared objects from paths and filenames controlled through that file. Exploitation requires local gromox-group membership and invocation of pam_gromox.so; when the PAM stack runs as root, the loaded code receives root privileges.
