Local privilege escalation via BIOS stack overflow
Published Jun 10, 2024 · Updated Oct 28, 2024
Stack buffer overflow in the system BIOS of certain HP PC products allows local users to escalate privileges and execute code. HP has not disclosed the affected BIOS component, the attacker-controlled input, or the exact unchecked copy operation that overruns the stack buffer. Local execution is required; successful exploitation permits elevated code execution and can interrupt the affected computer.
