CVE-2022-3697Network attack vector

Windows password disclosure via unprotected parameter logging

Published Oct 28, 2022 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Information disclosure in Ansible amazon.aws 2.1.0 through 5.0.0 allows attackers to obtain a Windows password from task logs. The ec2_instance module accepts tower_callback as a raw dictionary, so its set_password member bypasses no_log protection and is serialized into logs. Exposure requires tower_callback.windows to be enabled and set_password to be supplied; the consequence is disclosure to anyone able to read the task logs.
