CVE-2022-36969

Host file disclosure via external entity expansion

Published Mar 29, 2023 · Updated Feb 18, 2025

XXE in LoadImportedLibraries in AVEVA Edge 2020 SP2 Patch 0(4201.2111.1802.0000) allows remote attackers to read host files. The method parses a crafted document without blocking external entity URIs, causing the parser to fetch the referenced resource and embed its contents in the document. Exploitation requires a user to visit a malicious page or open a malicious file; disclosure occurs in the current process, and resource-heavy entities can interrupt the service.
