CVE-2022-36945Public exploit

Indefinite vehicle unlock via replayed key-fob signals

Published Aug 24, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Authentication bypass in certain Mazda vehicles through 2020 allows remote attackers to unlock doors via radio replay of key-fob signals. The RKE receiver accepts three consecutive captured valid signals, rolls its synchronization counter backward, and continues accepting replayed unlock commands indefinitely. The attack requires radio proximity and prior capture of legitimate fob transmissions; published testing demonstrated unlocking and resynchronization but did not establish exploitation in the wild.
