CVE-2022-36944Network attack vector

Arbitrary code execution via forged LazyList stream

Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated May 27, 2025

Deserialization in Scala Library 2.13.0 through 2.13.8 allows remote attackers to execute Function0 code through a forged stream. LazyList deserialization calls tail.prependedAll(init), which can evaluate an attacker-supplied lazyState Function0 before type validation finishes. Exploitation requires an application to deserialize untrusted Java objects; executed code can erase file contents or initiate network connections.
