SYSTEM privilege escalation via uncontrolled installer search path
Published Jan 9, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Local privilege escalation in Zoom Rooms for Windows installers before 5.13.0 allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges. The installer resolves a component through an uncontrolled search path containing an attacker-controlled location, allowing substituted code to execute with installer rights. A low-privileged Windows account and participation in an attack chain are required; successful exploitation yields full SYSTEM control of the host.
