CVE-2022-36764

DXE code execution via wrapped event allocation

Published Jan 9, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Integer overflow in TianoCore EDK II 202311 and earlier allows local users to execute code in the DXE phase through a crafted device path. Tcg2MeasurePeImage() adds an unbounded FilePathSize to EventSize, wraps the allocation size, then copies the full device path into the undersized heap buffer. Low privileges and high-complexity local access are required; successful exploitation can overwrite UEFI code or Boot Services pointers.
