Process crash via out-of-bounds sample read
Published Oct 26, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025
Heap-based buffer overflow in Bento4 1.6.0-639 mp42hevc allows remote attackers to crash the tool via a crafted MP4 file. WriteSample reads one byte immediately beyond a four-byte AP4_DataBuffer while converting a malformed six-sample HEVC track. The file must reach an mp42hevc invocation or an integrating workflow; the public proof of concept demonstrates an AddressSanitizer abort, not code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
