Process crash via underflowed memory-stream write
Published Oct 26, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025
Heap-based buffer overflow in Bento4 mp42aac allows remote attackers to crash the process by supplying a crafted MP4 file. AP4_MemoryByteStream::WritePartial passes an underflowed 32-bit write length of 4,294,967,288 to memcpy after parsing sample-group data. No authentication is required, but mp42aac must process the malicious file; the published demonstration aborts under AddressSanitizer.
