Process crash via stale SampleBuffer read
Published Oct 26, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025
Use-after-free in Bento4 1.6.0-639 mp42ts allows attackers to crash the process by supplying a crafted MP4 file. AP4_LinearReader::Advance retains a SampleBuffer reference after destroying the heap object, then reads eight bytes through the stale reference. Exploitation requires mp42ts to process the crafted file; public evidence demonstrates an AddressSanitizer abort but not code execution.
