Process crash via freed sample dereference
Published Oct 26, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025
Use-after-free in Bento4 mp42hls allows remote attackers to crash the process with a crafted MP4 file passed to the tool. AP4_LinearReader::Advance deletes its current SampleBuffer, then later calls AP4_Sample::GetOffset through the freed sample object while advancing tracks. Reachability requires an untrusted media file to be processed by mp42hls; the published proof of concept terminates an AddressSanitizer build, while broader code-execution impact has not been demonstrated.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
