Password disclosure via reversible local storage
Published Sep 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Credential exposure in Arq Backup 7.19.5.0 and earlier allows local users with administrative privileges to recover backup passwords. The application stores each backup-plan encryption password locally under reversible encryption instead of retaining only the derived encryption key. Administrative access to the protected local data is required, and recovery exposes the cleartext password and any other accounts where it was reused.
