Account takeover via unauthenticated password-change requests
Published Sep 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Access control failure in Canaan Avalon ASIC Miner 2020.3.30 and earlier allows remote attackers to replace user passwords via a crafted POST request. The web interface checks authentication for GET requests but processes corresponding POST requests without the same check, including the password update action. Network access to the management interface is sufficient; no existing credentials or user interaction is required, and a successful request lets the attacker set the root account password.
