Unauthenticated command execution via popen.cgi parameter
Published Aug 29, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Command injection in Hytec Inter HWL-2511-SS 1.05 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via popen.cgi. The /www/cgi-bin/popen.cgi endpoint passes the command query parameter to a system shell without neutralizing shell metacharacters. An unauthenticated HTTPS request is sufficient; the public proof of concept uses the flaw to open a reverse shell on the router.
