Authenticated code execution via file rename
Published Sep 16, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Remote code execution in Bolt CMS 5.1.12 and earlier allows remote authenticated users with ROLE_EDITOR to execute PHP through file editing. The file-edit endpoint accepts a modified destination filename, renaming an allowed uploaded text file to a .php file in the public files directory. Editor privileges and a PHP-capable web server are required; requesting the renamed file runs attacker-supplied commands with the web server's privileges.
