Root code execution via unbounded sscanf conversion
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in H3C GR-1200W MiniGRW1A0V100R006 allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted DEleteusergroup request. DEleteusergroup passes the request's param value to sscanf with an unbounded %[^,] conversion, allowing oversized input to overwrite its V15 stack buffer. The endpoint is network-reachable without user interaction; exploitation can restart the affected process or yield a root shell.
