Unauthenticated root shell via ap_version_check overflow
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in H3C GR-1200W firmware MiniGRW1A0V100R006 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted HTTP request. The ap_version_check handler parses the attacker-controlled param value with greedy sscanf %[^;] matching into a fixed stack buffer, allowing overwrite beyond V5 and stack corruption. The endpoint is reachable over the router web interface without authentication; published proof of concept demonstrates a stable root shell, so compromise can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
