CVE-2022-36504Public exploit

Root code execution via unbounded SSID parsing

Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Jun 17, 2025

Stack overflow in Edit_BasicSSID in H3C Magic NX18 Plus NX18PV100R003 allows attackers to execute code as root via a crafted SSID parameter. Edit_BasicSSID passes the parameter to sscanf with an unbounded scanset, which writes input exceeding the fixed-size V31 stack buffer. The public proof of concept uses an HTTP POST and reports unauthenticated root access, while NVD rates exploitation as local and low-privileged.
