Root code execution via unbounded sscanf conversion
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in H3C Magic NX18 Plus NX18PV100R003 allows remote attackers to execute code as root via a crafted HTTP request. UpdateMacClone parses the attacker-controlled param field with an unbounded sscanf %s conversion into a smaller stack buffer. The /goform/aspForm endpoint accepts the crafted POST request without authentication; exploitation can open a root shell or restart the affected process.
