Root shell access via unbounded WLAN parsing
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in H3C Magic NX18 Plus NX18PV100R003 allows remote attackers to obtain a root shell through a crafted HTTP POST. EditWlanMacList parses the semicolon-delimited param field with sscanf conversion specifiers that lack width limits, overflowing a stack buffer. The disclosure reports that no authentication is required, and exploitation can restart the affected process or execute code as root.
