Root code execution via unbounded sscanf conversion
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in H3C Magic NX18 Plus NX18PV100R003 allows remote attackers to execute code as root via a crafted AddMacList request. AddMacList parses the attacker-controlled param field with sscanf using an unbounded %[^;] conversion, overflowing the V23 stack buffer when the field exceeds its capacity. The HTTP proof of concept targets /goform/aspForm without authentication and demonstrates a process restart; the disclosure also reports stable root-shell execution.
