Unauthenticated root shell via unbounded sscanf parsing
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in AddMacList in H3C B5 Mini B5MiniV100R005 allows attackers to execute code via a crafted POST request. AddMacList passes the attacker-controlled param value to sscanf with an unbounded %[^;] conversion into a smaller stack buffer. Reachability requires access to the router web interface; the published report states that authorization is unnecessary and demonstrates process restart, denial of service, and a stable root shell.
