Root shell via unbounded sscanf parsing
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in H3C B5 Mini B5MiniV100R005 allows attackers to gain a root shell through a crafted HTTP form request. SetAPWifiorLedInfoById passes the attacker-controlled param value to sscanf with an unbounded %[^;] conversion, overflowing a smaller stack buffer. The proof of concept targets the router management endpoint without authentication; a denial-of-service payload restarts the process, while a tailored payload gains root access.
