Unauthenticated root shell via unbounded sscanf parsing
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in H3C B5 Mini firmware B5MiniV100R005 allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted HTTP request. Asp_SetTimingtimeWifiAndLed parses the param field with the unbounded sscanf pattern %[^;]; into a smaller stack buffer, overwriting adjacent stack data. The published proof of concept reaches POST /goform/aspForm without authentication and demonstrates process interruption; the report also identifies a stable root shell as the bounded code-execution impact.
